Setup Guide
Step 1 — First Boot
After burning the USB and booting your tablet from it, the SmartyHome OS installer starts automatically. You'll see a dark screen with the SmartyHome logo and a prompt:
Type YES to continue:
Type YES and press Enter. The system will partition your internal storage, format it, copy all files, and install the bootloader. This takes 2-5 minutes.
After installation completes, you'll see:
Installation Complete! Remove USB and press Enter to reboot.
Remove the USB drive, press Enter, and the tablet reboots into SmartyHome OS.
Step 2 — Welcome Wizard
On first boot into the installed system, the setup wizard appears automatically. You'll see the SmartyHome OS splash screen with the spinning logo, then the wizard starts.
Select Language & Timezone
The first wizard step asks for your language and timezone:
- Tap the language dropdown — English, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil available
- Select your timezone (Asia/Kolkata for India)
- Check "Enable voice assistant" if you want voice control
- Tap Continue
Step 3 — WiFi Setup
The WiFi step scans for available networks in your area:
- Tap Scan to find networks
- Available networks appear with signal strength and security type
- Tap your network name
- Enter the WiFi password
- Tap Connect
Step 4 — Device Name
Give your tablet a name so you can identify it on the network and in the SmartyHome app:
- Default: "SmartyHome Hub"
- Example names: "Living Room Tablet", "Kitchen Panel", "Hallway Control"
- Tap Continue
Step 5 — Hardware Detection
The system automatically detects your tablet's capabilities:
- Standard profile — Local STT/TTS, Zigbee bridge, full dashboard
- Pro profile — Full local AI, Matter + Zigbee, camera streaming
- Lite profile — Cloud AI, basic dashboard, no local LLM
Tap Continue to accept the detected profile.
Step 6 — Ready!
Review your settings and tap Launch Dashboard. The SmartyHome dashboard opens in full-screen kiosk mode.
Post-Setup Configuration
Link to Cloud (Recommended)
- Go to Settings → Cloud
- Tap Link to Cloud
- Scan the QR code with your phone
- Sign in at the link page
- Enter the 6-digit code on your tablet
- Tap Verify & Link Device
After linking, your cloud devices automatically sync to the tablet. You'll see them in the dashboard.
Add Devices
- Cloud devices: Appear automatically after linking
- WiFi devices (ESP32): Power on → auto-discovered via UDP
- Manual add: Go to Discovery → Add Device → enter IP or MAC
Create Your First Scene
- Go to Scenes in the sidebar
- Tap + New Scene
- Name your scene (e.g., "Good Morning")
- Add actions: select device → choose command → set value
- Repeat for each device you want to control
- Tap Save
Create Your First Schedule
- Go to Schedules in the sidebar
- Tap + New Schedule
- Select category → device → ON/OFF action
- Choose trigger time and repeat days
- Name and save
